OUR FARMS | Peru
Peru is an amazing place for coffee in terms of climate, altitude, and soil conditions, but it is quite recently that Peru has gotten its well-deserved reputation as a great coffee-producing nation. It has long been considered the ’smaller brother’ of Colombia, but things are changing. The landscape of Peru is very varied and to reach the Lykke farms in Peru, you cross the Andes, amongst its snow-covered peaks, and in just a couple of hours, you descend into the dense tropical rainforests that are literally the beginning of the Amazon.
In the subregion of Monobamba and Agua de Nieves, we have 5 hectares of land at 1700-1800 meters above sea level, with our first coffee plants being planted in 2020. Here is also where we will construct our wet mill and processing station. Where, apart from bringing you coffee from our own farm, we plan to tour the area in the Lykke pickup truck. To collect coffee cherries from our friends and neighbors, to bring back and be processed at our site. Into the highest quality possible.
On the other side of the street from our farm we find Delvis, the foreman of the local coffee cooperative, and him together with Edison are the key Lykke partners on-site. In Peru, there is a tradition of growing coffee without chemical pesticides. Something that is completely in line with Lykke values and we look forward to collaborating together with producers in this region to explore even more sustainable methods in growing and processing the coffee. The harvest season starts in April-May at the lower altitudes, but the whole season will stretch all the way to September reaching the highest altitudes.
